Si828x Family: SiC FET-Ready ISODrivers with Integrated DC-DC Converters

The Si828x family (Si8281/82/83/84) comprises isolated, high-current gate drivers featuring integrated system safety and feedback functions. These devices are optimized for driving Silicon Carbide (SiC) FETs, power MOSFETs, and IGBTs in various inverter and motor control applications. Leveraging Skyworks' proprietary silicon isolation technology, they offer up to 5.0 kVrms withstand voltage per UL1577, providing superior performance, stability across temperature and age, tighter part-to-part matching, and enhanced common-mode rejection compared to other isolation technologies. The integrated DC-DC controller simplifies the implementation of an isolated supply for the driver side. The Si828x family supports user-adjustable frequency for emissions control, a soft-start function for safety, and shutdown capability. They require minimal passive components and a miniature transformer. The input is a complementary digital input, and the isolation side features control and feedback digital signals. The controller receives driver-side power and fault status and can recover from faults via an active-low reset pin. The output stage provides separate pull-up and pull-down pins for the gate. A dedicated DSAT pin detects desaturation and initiates a controlled shutdown with soft shutdown. An integrated Miller clamp ensures strong power switch turn-off. Automotive Grade options are available, built with automotive-specific manufacturing flows for robustness and low defectivity.
