Si828x Family: SiC FET-Ready ISODrivers with Integrated DC-DC Converters

The Si828x family (Si8281/82/83/84) offers isolated, high-current gate drivers with integrated system safety and feedback functions, ideal for driving Silicon Carbide (SiC) FETs, power MOSFETs, and IGBTs in inverter and motor control applications. Leveraging Skyworks' proprietary silicon isolation technology, these devices provide up to 5.0 kVrms withstand voltage (UL1577), ensuring superior performance, temperature stability, part-to-part matching, and common-mode rejection. The integrated DC-DC controller simplifies the implementation of an isolated supply for the driver side. Depending on system voltage and power requirements, the Si828x can be configured with integrated power switches (Si8281/83) for limited DC-DC voltage input or external power switches (Si8282/84) for higher voltage inputs. Features include user-adjustable frequency for emission control, soft-start for safety, and shutdown capability. The devices require minimal passive components and a miniature transformer, with complementary digital inputs and control/feedback signals on the isolation side. The output stage provides separate pull-up and pull-down pins, a dedicated DSAT pin for desaturation detection with soft shutdown, and an integrated Miller clamp for strong power switch turn-off. Automotive Grade options are available, built with automotive-specific manufacturing flows for enhanced robustness and low defectivity.
