Product Description
The Si828x family (Si8281/82/83/84) comprises isolated, high-current gate drivers with integrated system safety and feedback functions. These devices are ideal for driving Silicon Carbide (SiC) FETs, power MOSFETs, and IGBTs in a wide variety of inverter and motor control applications. Utilizing Skyworks' proprietary silicon isolation technology, they support up to 5.0 kVrms withstand voltage per UL1577, offering superior performance, reduced variation with temperature and age, tighter part-to-part matching, and enhanced common-mode rejection compared to other isolation technologies. The Si828x family also integrates a DC-DC controller for simplified implementation of an isolated supply for the driver side. The DC-DC controller is available in two configurations: Si8281/83 with integrated power switches (limited DC-DC voltage input) and Si8282/84 with external power switches (higher voltage input capability). Features include user-adjustable frequency for minimizing emissions, soft-start for safety, and shutdown capability. The devices require minimal passive components and a miniature transformer. Input is a complementary digital input, with control and feedback digital signals on the isolation input side. The output side provides separate pull-up and pull-down pins for the gate, a dedicated DSAT pin for desaturation detection and controlled shutdown, and an integrated Miller clamp for strong power switch turn-off.
