The Si828x family (Si8281/82/83/84) offers isolated, high-current gate drivers with integrated system safety and feedback functions, ideal for driving Silicon Carbide (SiC) FETs, power MOSFETs, and IGBTs in inverter and motor control applications. Utilizing Skyworks' proprietary silicon isolation technology, these devices support up to 5.0 kVrms withstand voltage per UL1577, providing superior performance, stability, and common-mode rejection. The integrated DC-DC controller simplifies isolated power supply implementation for the driver side, with configurations available for different system voltage rails and power needs. The Si8281/83 feature integrated power switches with limited DC-DC input voltage, while the Si8282/84 use external switches for higher input voltage capability. Options for user-adjustable frequency, soft-start, and shutdown enhance safety and performance. These devices require minimal passive components and a miniature transformer, with complementary digital input and control/feedback signals on the isolation side. The output stage includes separate pull-up and pull-down pins, a dedicated DSAT pin for desaturation detection and controlled shutdown, and an integrated Miller clamp for strong turn-off. Automotive Grade options are available, built with automotive-specific manufacturing flows and AEC-Q100 qualification.
